Paul Smiths VIC - Bird Of Prey
Join Paul Smiths VIC naturalists for a live Bird-of-Prey Program featuring the Center's non-releasable education birds, and get a close-up look at the special adaptations of these creatures. Each of these Adirondack raptors was rescued and received care from wildlife rehabilitators; however, none are able to survive in the wild. The birds work alongside naturalists in bird-on-hand programs. In all, the Paul Smiths VIC has four birds of prey: a barred owl, a great-horned owl and two red-tailed hawks. Only one of the birds, usually a red-tailed hawk, is featured at the Bird-of-Prey presentations. The bird-on-hand programs are free and open to the public and are sponsored by the Adirondack Park Institute, the not-for-profit organization that supports innovative environmental education programs, curricula, special events and publications at the Newcomb and Paul Smiths VICs. Bird-of-Prey presentations at the Paul Smiths VIC are held at noon daily from July 1 to Labor Day. |
