Discover the Adirondack Park!

Explore nature on scenic trails. Spend time among the plants and animals, and learn for yourself why this 6-million-acre park is protected by law. Find traveler information about events, attractions and hospitality in our mountain communities. We encourage you to visit the VICs, your Adirondack Park headquarters for parkwide interpretation, in Paul Smiths and Newcomb, New York. Open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. year round. Admission is FREE.

Woodland Wildflowers on Mother’s Day MAY 11, 2008. 1-2:30 p.m. Join naturalist Peter O’Shea for a walk as the woodland wildflowers once again beginning their yearly show. Admire this show and learn some of the folklore that surrounds these flowers. Preregistration is required. Free. Call the Paul Smiths VIC at (518) 327-3000. [see Paul Smiths events]

Trails - Highlights

Rich Lake Trail This 0.6-mile trail is a terrific warm-up with great views of Rich Lake and Goodnow Mountain. This short trek gives you a glimpse of what the other trails have to offer. (RED markers) [see Newcomb trails]

Heron Marsh Trail This 0.8-mile loop serves as the prime wildlife viewing trail at the VIC. There are two boardwalks and an elevated tower that are fine stops from which to spot the marsh regulars. There are also two Adirondack lean-tos on the lower side of the trail. Return through a forest of red and white pines. (GREEN markers) [see Paul Smiths trails]

ncpr 40th anniversary 40k run/walk

Heron Marsh

Think Spring! As soon as the ice goes out on the Heron Marsh, the Paul Smiths VIC will be hosting the North Country Public Radio 40th Anniversary 40k Run/Walk, a trail race on Saturday, May 10, 2008 with six loops around our scenic trail system.
