ROCK FEST 2008: Celebrating Geology in the Adirondacks

The first-ever Rock Fest in the Adirondack Mountains is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008 at the Adirondack Park Agency Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) in Newcomb.

Rock Fest 2008 is a day-long exploration designed to increase appreciation and understanding of regional geology.

The day's activities, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include geology field trips, lectures, and special rock exhibits.

10:30 a.m. Lecture: Adirondack Geology
11:15 a.m. Field trip: Rocks in Place
1 p.m. Lecture: Historical Use of Minerals Resources
1:45 p.m. Lecture: Contemporary Use of Mineral Resources
2:30 p.m. Lecture: Earthquakes in New York State
3:15 p.m. Lecture: Rocks in Everyday Life
4 p.m. Field trip: Tahawus mine (pending interest)
