Paul Smiths VIC - outreach programs
In-School Programs
The Paul Smiths VIC offers three in-school programs, each available to any grade.
Adirondack Birds of Prey: This school outreach program is built around the concepts of adaptation, habitat and predation. A slide program is included for older groups, and a reading of "Owl Moon" is substituted for the younger grades. All groups will be presented with a live bird-on-hand presentation with an Adirondack raptor, followed by a question-and-answer session. It is suitable for use in either small-group classroom settings or in an auditorium.
Beaver Theater Resource Box: This resource kit full of fun stuff has been prepared to help teach natural history topics, using the beaver as the case study. Included in the kit are chew sticks and other beaver artifacts, a "Beaver-for-a-Day" game and a 25-minute video on the life of the beaver. The highlight of the kit is a complete set of scripts, props and puppets for "The Beaver's Tail," a children’s play about a beaver family.
Butterfly Theater Resource Box: This program has been prepared to help teach children about the life cycles of the monarch butterfly. The highlight of the resource box is a complete set of scripts, props and puppets for "The Tale of Marty Monarch," a children's play.
